5 Stories about Take 5   Take 5 in the NEWS

1. Take 5 was conceived by CIUT’s Station Manager Brian Burchell and Program Director Ken Stowar, and was developed by Toronto radio producer Andy Frank. Today it is led by original cast-member and news director David Peterson, and supported by a dynamic news team, lead tech Steve Birek, and the Take5 Music team.Take 5’s has featured about 150 volunteer talents (by mid 2008)

2. Take 5 originates out of 5 studios, 5 days a week, including a fully equipped music-recording studio in the basement of CIUT - aka The Stone Cellar. Every day, music acts of all genres from all over the world, including Juno-winning and Grammy-nominated acts, perform four songs “live on Take 5”. Take5 has hosted well over 400 acts in its first two years.

3. Take 5 traffic reports by remote connection from the ITS Lab at the University of Toronto Department of Civil Engineering, located two blocks south of CIUT’s main studios. More info on this state of the art technology is at the ITS Traffic page.

4. Take 5 features superbly crafted world and national newscasts, and engaging conversations with newsmakers, academics, experts, authors and entertainers.

5.Take 5 was borne out of the ashes of a program that aired on CIUT 89.5 FM over a three week period in September, 2005. It was called Toronto Unlocked, and featured many of the locked-out stars of CBC Radio 1 morning show, Metro Morning. Andy Barrie, Kevin Sylvester, Jill Dempsey, Jim Curran and Matt Galloway all took part. CIUT observed, took copious notes, and with the help of the same people (and many more from CBC), trained over 50 radio-school and j-school candidates toward the October 2, 2006 launch of Take 5.
