Take 5 features several volunteer broadcasters who devote many hours each every week to a show that demands news, weather, sports, traffic, feature reports, podcasting, archiving, chase producing, floor direction and live music. It is like putting on a Broadway show every day, one which draws on an amazing, fun, resourceful and devoted cast.

David Peterson (News Director, Senior Producer, Host)

One of Take 5’s original members, Dave has been there since the birth of the show, and has acted in almost every role since. Now, as Take 5’s Host, Senior Producer and News Director he anchors a team of writers, news and traffic reporters, feature producers while mentoring and teaching these aspiring journalists and Radio and TV personalities. A self-confessed news, world politics, and current affairs junkie, Dave has returned to the medium and art form for which he has had a lifelong love.

Mieke Anderson

Mieke loves the intimacy of radio. She recently graduated from Ryerson's broadcast journalism program for degree grads. During that time she was a host and producer at CKLN 88.1 FM and interned at CBC Radio's The Current. Mieke joined Take 5 in September '08.

Pam Bal

With a natural curiosity for what's going on in the world and a passion for good story-telling, it was an ideal fit for Pam to join Take 5. While majoring in Communication Studies and Professional Writing at York University, Pam landed a co-op placement at a local arts newspaper. It was love at first write, but hiding behind a byline was not enough. After working up the courage to finally pursue her dream of broadcast journalism, she joined the Take 5 team as a news reader, news writer, and traffic reporter.

Adam Bemma

Adam is a freelance journalist based in Montreal who writes for various publications. As a reporter for Take 5, he gets to interview subjects and cover stories that he thinks are missing in the mainstream media. His passion for journalism brought him to CIUT and the Take 5 team, where he enjoys participating in the city’s only democratic morning news program.

Will Campbell

Will recently graduated with a degree in history from the University of Toronto and enjoys learning about the present as much as the past. A three-year veteran of Take 5, he has a long-standing passion for Canadian politics and current affairs which he has furthered developed as a broadcast and investigative journalist. Will's investigative work has been distributed by The Canadian Press, and he is constantly in pursuit of the next big story.

Jessie Curell

Jessie is currently completing her MA in Media Production at Ryerson, where she is developing a media literacy and production workshop series for girls that will tour Canada throughout the summer of 2010. Socially conscious and entertaining media is her passion, with a focus on radio and filmmaking. Having recently moved to Toronto from the Yukon, she intends to make the most of metropolitan living, taking in as much creative inspiration as possible, while always making time to explore the beautiful areas of the city with her dog Rosie.

Heather Gilroy

Heather Gilroy had been working in the offices of 89.5 CIUT for over a year and a half before making the bold (and early morning) jump onto the Take 5 wagon. A university of Toronto graduate, she's edited a section of New College's The Window, blogged for U of T's student life, interned at Markham's Economist and Sun newspaper, and is now learning comedy writing at Second City. Currently, she reads weather and traffic with large amounts of pizzaz.

Matthew Kupfer

Matthew Kupfer is in his final year of undergraduate studies in history at the university of Toronto. He has volunteered with Take 5 for almost two years: working in traffic, reporting and co-hosting. He currently works as a producer on the show - helping reporters put their pieces together - and he updates web material, such as the show's podcasting and Twitter feeds. Beyond the radio, he has worked at several UofT newspapers, in theatre (both acting and writing) and done some camera work for film.

Damon Scheffer

After being cut from the Arsenal reserves for excessive cursing, (and for having two left feet? Or was that right feet?) Damon turned his attention to a career that would be much easier to break into than professional soccer: Radio. Damon has had a love of radio for as long as he can remember and has owned several. Damon anchors, co-hosts, chases the odd story and makes the odd pot of coffee.

Peter Stock

Peter comes to journalism somewhat late, but with a wealth of life experience to draw on. School and work has taken him to Philadelphia, New York City and Europe. He spent the 90s mostly in France running his own travel company. Now back in his home town, Toronto, he's also pursuing freelance non-fiction writing. A dedicated spoken word radio listener, Peter looks forward to contributing to that side of CIUT's programming.

Laura Taylor

Laura is a first year Ryerson student in the Radio and Television Arts program. But this isn't her first year of university. After completing a year at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus in their journalism program, Laura discovered her passion lied in broadcasting news, rather than print news. And volunteering at CIUT has only helped her to practice her broadcast writing skills and to get a better look at the industry - and so far, she's loving it!
